Pictured is the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 (WRC-15). It produced the new and revised provisions of the Radio Regulations including all Appendices, as well as the new and revised Resolutions and Recommendations approved by the Conference.
The ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. They allocate global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develop the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.
This is your engine of global trade. This is your global single market. This really is one of the top tables that will facilitate more and better trade. This is what will drive harmonisation and this is what will bring about a global reach for digital services. It reaches far beyond the walled garden of the EU and this is the top table where we need to be, with our own voice and veto. This is where our regulations come from. The EU does not make the rules.
This is why we don't need to be in the EU. We do not need a middleman adding complications and delays and our speed should not be pegged to the slowest ship in the convoy. If we really do want to be a global leader in telecoms and services we need to be fully engaged in Geneva, not Brussels.
This is one of the many examples where the EU is gradually being made redundant, and this is real multilateralism and cooperation. Why should we settle for less than full global participation as the world's fifth largest economy?
